beer bread Every good soup needs good, homemade, bread to go with it. I don’t always (or often) have time to mix up a loaf of bread, knead it, let it rise, and then bake it. My bread machine had a part go missing years ago (and I was not enamored enough with it to replace it). However, I have another bread weapon in my arsenal.

Beer bread.

I’m sure you are no stranger to beer bread. If you have been to any home cooking parties, no doubt you have sampled some.And, while the beer bread mix that you can purchase tastes good, it is expensive!

I’ve been baking beer bread since before beer bread was cool. As a newlywed in Atlanta 18 years ago, I found a recipe for beer bread in a church cookbook. As a newlywed I had limited cooking skills, limited equipment, and a very limited food budget. This easy recipe required no fancy ingredients, did not need a big, heavy mixer and did not even need to be kneaded!


3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
12 ounces of beer
1/4 cup butter, melted


1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees, generously grease a loaf pan
2. Mix all of the dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
3. Pour in the beer and mix until blended, do not over-stir.
4. Pour mixture into the loaf pan and spread evenly.
5. Pour melted butter over the top.
6. Bake 30-45 minutes until bread is golden brown.

    looks yummy, Pam! We have a snow day here (which always means baking to me) and just happen to have some “cheerleader” beer leftover that we don’t care to drink as it’s too bland. Perfect for beer bread!

    This looks so simple and delicious. I’m going to try it tonight! A few years ago I got invited to Tastefully Simple parties quite often. I guess it was a thing around here. Their beer bread mix was my favorite thing!
