Re-Entering the Workforce– Make a Great First Impression

About 5 years ago I took a deep breath and prepared for a huge change.

After sixteen years as a stay at home mom, I was ready to jump back into career mode.

This was not easy! It was especially complicated by the fact that my only “real job” that I had after college only lasted for a year and a half until we had our first son AND it was not a career that I felt I actually excelled at (medical sales).

I had to totally re-invent myself at age 40. It was a daunting task, but I was determined.

First, I had to Write a New Resume

And, boy had resumes changed in 16 years! Thankfully the internet is full of rich resources to help you craft an eye catching resume. I found this article on resumes for stay at home moms to be very enlightening. Here are tips for making your resume look nicer from a graphic design standpoint. 

Next, I needed to Get my Mindset Right

I read everything about careers and personal development that I could get my hands on. Some of my favorites were Lean In, by Sheryl Sandberg, You are a Badass, and Own the Room.
