Instant Pot 101: Yogurt

Today we are going to make Yogurt in the Instant Pot. When I first got my Instant Pot, I looked through the instruction manual and saw that I could make homemade yogurt. I thought it was a little weird to make my own yogurt, and figured I’d never use my Instant Pot for that reason.

Want to catch up on my Instant Pot 101 series? Start here.

Then I started reading all the posts on the Instant Pot Facebook group and wondered if I would, indeed, try making my own yogurt. But most of those posts described boiling the milk to a certain temperature, making the yogurt, and then straining it—a very long process. I have the Instant Pot to make my life easier, so that didn’t appeal to me.

Enter the post that changed my yogurt life. Someone described making yogurt without boiling, with only three ingredients, and that didn’t have to strain. Instantly I was hooked. A week later I had the ingredients in hand and made my first pot of yogurt.

Life. Changing.

This yogurt is DELICIOUS. And I’m going to teach you how to do it!

Instant Pot 101: Homemade Yogurt

How to Make Yogurt In Your Instant Pot

You need three ingredients:

  • 52 fl oz. of Fairlife Whole milk (it HAS to be ultra-pasteurized milk)
  • 2 tablespoons of plain or vanilla Siggis yogurt (or you can use Fage Greek yogurt- you need the active live cultures for the starter)
  • a can of sweetened, condensed milk

Ingredients for Instant Pot Yogurt

Put all three ingredients in your Instant Pot.

Whisk together.

Top with a glass lid. You can use your regular lid, but it doesn’t
need to be pressurized.

Instant Pot Yogurt Prep

Hit the “Yogurt” button,

And set for 8 hours. I usually do this on a Saturday morning and make mine for the week. You can make it overnight as well.

Cooking Instant Pot Yogurt

After 8 hours, your pot will beep and show “YoGt.” It’s ready!

It’s amazing. It’s magical.

Look how thick it is! A spoon stands up in it!

I put mine into separate containers, and then refrigerate overnight before eating. You can keep it in the pot if you want, too. Just make sure you don’t stir it- it will become runny.

I top it with fruit before eating it! It makes a delicious breakfast. The best part is you can use your own yogurt for your next batch- it has the active live cultures you need!

I can’t wait to hear about your yogurt making- you will LOVE it! Next week we will be celebrating some fun holidays with our Instant Pots!
