Last Day of School

Today is the last day of school. I’m super excited.

I love the first day of school, I love the giddy feeling that I still get as an adult the night before the first day of school.

But the last day of school is fun too.

Because this is the day I can reclaim my kids for the summer!

This has been a very good school year. All four boys started new schools, Dakotateen moved up tot he high school, Dakotatween (now a teen himself) moved to the Middle School, and the two middles started in a new to us elementary school.

All four boys thrived.

I’m especially proud of Dakotatween. That kid has not gotten an A on his report card . . . ever. Not even for gym. As a matter of fact, Bs had been rare as well. Well, this year he took charge of his grades. He had some teachers that really held him accountable to living up to his potential. And he is ending the year with As and Bs! No Cs! As a matter of fact one of his As is in English. The first quarter this year he had a D in English . . .  that he had to really work to bring up from an F! Talk about a dramatic improvement! I’m pretty proud. As a result he is really enjoying the Kindle Touch that he earned from me as a reward! (Did you know that you can now purchased refurbished models for a discount?) His next challenge is to read all the books I loaded up on it before summer is over!

Dakotateen will be spending the summer working and traveling. He’s pretty blessed to have a high school job that he loves and gives him as many hours as he wants.

My plan with the middles and the twins this summer is to enjoy some Camp Mom. I hope to take us on plenty of field trips, adventures and work on some great projects too! I try to delve into some learning as well. I usually teach them a topic that there is not much time for in school, and I think this summer we will have some fun with Greek Mythology. . .which will tie in well with the Summer Olympic Games. Watch the blog in the month of June as I will focus almost exclusively on Camp Mom activities.

And in July we are taking the blog on the road! Watch for camping tips, hiking adventures and great campfire recipes!

In August we will turn towards getting ready for school again and I will focus on some great back to school ideas, hints and tips!

Chime in! What are your plans for the summer? Are your kids done with school yet? When is their last day?
