Meet Shadow, Pedigree Ambassador Dog

Shadow
I’m not sure I’ve formally introduced you to Shadow yet. I know that I have mentioned our “wonderpoodle” who enjoys coffee, barks at the UPS man and thus wakes sleeping babies and hates to be alone ever.
Shadow is our 4 year old Miniature Apricot Poodle. For the record, when we had a family vote deciding whether to adopt him at a year old, I was the lone no vote. I like dogs enough, but having grown up with dogs I know that dogs take responsibility and work. I was not sure that my wonderful family was aware of that. BUT, he was then 3 year old Ethan’s “Christmas Dream Come True”. The children do love Shadow very much (even though they forget to take him for walks), and he has grown on me. Even the babies love Shadow. . .as evidenced by the fact that “dog” is part of their very limited vocabulary.
Pedigree is introducing a new line of targeted dog food. Shadow is trying out the “Small Breed Nutrition” variety. Now, Shadow is a fairly picky eater when it comes to dog food. (He will eat any kind of people food. . .which can be a problem). I have tried numerous dry foods, from very expensive special diet brands to less expensive brands. Pedigree has happened to be the brand of food that Shadow will most willingly eat. Before switching to the Small Breed Nutrition food he had been eating the Healthy Longevity variety. We slowly switched over to the new food and he has not noticed a difference.
Shadow still prefers my cooking and all of the Cheerios that the girls drop on the floor, but he eats the Pedigree food.
Pedigree also has a wonderful Adoption drive program and a way for you to donate food to shelter dogs.
Chime in! Do you have a dog? How has he or she added to your family life? What is the biggest challenge in dog ownership? And cute photos to share? You know I’d love to hear from you!
I wrote this review while participating in an Ambassador campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Pedigree and received dog food to facilitate my reviews and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
He’s so cute! I think poodles make awesome family dogs. We have a boxer-lab mix who is almost 2 years old. I also wasn’t too keen on getting a dog because of the amount of work. Aside from scooping the yard, which I refuse to do, I’m the one responsible for daily walks, food, water & keeping up with vet visits, etc. Also, our dog prefers chewing on the kids’ toys over her own. And socks! Her favorite treat is a stray sock! I’ve had 3 expensive vet visits when I thought she might have a bowel obstruction due to a sock or toy.
I love our dog, but honestly I wish we didn’t have her because it’s like having an additional child, only I’m not IN love with her. Still, she’s our responsibility and part of the family now. So we’ll do our best by her.
We actually have two dogs that make our family complete. They are both German Shepherds. One we adopted from a local animal shelter and the other we spent way to much money on…. lol.
Our dogs make our family a family. Our family loves our dogs and our dogs love our family…and each other.
Our dogs eat Rachael Ray’s Chicken formula of dog food. Previously one of our dogs was on a very expensive high end allergy formula and then we found the RR brand which is the same thing with 1/4 of the cost… which as you know as a larger family is important.

We have a 4 year old Beagle. She is rotten, and not-so-sneaky, and has no willpower. At all. But my babies love her and she loves them. The only time, ever, that I have seen her exhibit any sort of patience or self-control is when my girls are playing with her. The almost-one-year-old(sob!) pulls on her eyebrows, pokes at her eyes, and then patpatpats her back, and Lucy just rolls over to present her tummy.
She is one of the most hilarious parts of my day, every day, and I’m glad that she’s part of our family.
On a dog food note, Pedigree gave her gas and gross poops. She eats Science Diet and her (much smaller) poops dissolve in the rain – which means we (my husband) only has to poop scoop when it’s dry for weeks on end.
Oh my, dog gas is terrible! Shadow does not seem to have that problem, and poodle poop is pretty small:) I\’m not the scooper, so I guess I would not know how different foods affect that!
Beagles are funny about the no willpower thing aren\’t they? We had friends with one and one day he ate an entire box of cheerios. . .including the box!

Lucy doesn’t seem to have gas issues any more, and my nose is grateful.
But yeah, if it’s paper, Lucy will eat it. If it could possibly concieve of smelling like … well, anything… Lucy will eat it. She’s my main motivation for CDing over disposeable diapering at home. She’ll leave cloth diapers alone, but she’ll upend the trash can to get at a disposeable. (ewwwwwwwwww!)
If we’d ever left a box of Cherrios within her reach, she surely would have eaten it, given the chance. Goats don’t have nothin’ on a good beagle.
