We just returned from a weekend of refreshment.
Some very gracious members of our church loaned us their vacation home for five days. It just so happens to be in the same area that we used to live. So, as well as much relaxation, we were able to catch up with old and dear friends.
The snow was deep and fluffy, so the children enjoyed romping through it.
As for me, I sat by the fireplace and read. Some pleasure reading, some business reading, and some heavy-duty editing for a project I am working on. It was peaceful, and quiet, and calm. I felt my introvert self being recharged more than I’ve felt recharged and renewed in a long time.
The children reconnected as well. Forced to work and play together, they learned to enjoy the built-in playmates that God gifted them. Sure, they fought a bit as well, but mostly, they enjoyed some fun, imaginative time together.
We all need to recharge and refresh. For some it is easier than others. Some enjoy a trip to the gym. Some a drive in the country, others a hike in the woods.
Our family seems to need all the above. So the children got the outdoors time they so need, and I got the quiet isolation that I desire.
As a result I feel energized to be a better wife, mother and friend. I also feel like I was able to commit time to some projects that had been slowly simmering on the back burner.
