I am so excited to be part of the rollout of Truth in the Tinsel, an eBook to help us celebrate the gift of Advent with our little ones.

Advent is the season in the church year that leads up to Christmas, the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is a time of repentance, a time of preparation, a time of longing for our heavenly King. Advent is a treasure. It is a time for us to slow down amidst the hustle and bustle and focus on what we are really preparing for.

The Rev. and I have tried to make Advent a family time throughout our whole marriage. In the early years we even waited to decorate for Christmas until Christmas Eve. Now, with older kids, and the Rev. being a full-time pastor, we have to spread out our tree trimming a bit or it will never get done. But what we always make time for is Advent devotions after dinner. We light candles on our Advent wreath, we sing “O Come. O Come Emmanuel” and we read from God’s Word, the Bible.

What I was looking for was something a little more age appropriate for the twins, so that we could focus on teaching the story of Advent during the day. Along comes Amanda, from Impress Your Kids. She has put together a wonderful e-book that will make Advent a very special time for your little ones. She is challenging us to give our kids the first 24 days of December, to make it a time of learning, and reverence and joy.The Truth in the Tinsel does not use cutesy stories or rhymes or songs to tell the Christmas story, it guides us to use God’s own words, from the Bible. Each day has a section of the Christmas story to focus on, and then a meaningful ornament to create together.

I am amazed at Amanda’s organization. In the book she lists a very complete supply list, broken down by day. Most you will have at home, but if you use her list you will know what you need to stop at the store for ahead of time. The book also includes patterns for several ornaments, and “clue words” (one a day) in two formats, one for traditional advent calendars with pockets and one to make an Advent chain.

I am beyond excited to use this with my girls! I’ll be showing off our projects and what we learn throughout December, so make sure to check back!

Do you want a copy of Truth in the Tinsel? Today only, Friday, November 25, 2011, the price is $2.99. After today the price will be $4.99, which is still a great price for such an awesome resource!
