Seven Quick Takes Friday

As we head into Mid-July, it seems we hit quite a few important dates!

On Wednesday, the girls will be six months old! It is hard to believe that six months ago today I was hugely pregnant and just a little bit crabby. Today I am still crabby, which leads me to believe that this is a chronic character flaw in my personality. However, I am MUCh more comfortable in my skin! Not only have I lost my baby weight, I lost a little extra as well! I am still about 30 pounds heavier than when we married, but I’m going to guess that two pounds of weight gain per year are not THAT bad! I’m in week three of my Couch to 5K program, and I ran for three minutes straight, TWICE, on Wednesday night, along with two additional 90 second runs. To a runner, this may seem like no big deal…but anyone who knows me knows: PAMMY DOES NOT RUN! I am fit, and I can walk and hike for miles, but running has never ever been my THING. However, in the spirit of kicking my fitness up a notch, running it is.

I think it should be noted that I am doing my walking/jogging on a very hilly bike trail around the golf course, in public. So, not only am I running (which has GOT to look funny), I am running uphill part of the way, in North Dakota…so it is windy…and the wind is NEVER at my back…and I am pushing a pair of twinfants, one of whom is inevitably crying. Never fear though. I can’t hear her. I have my iPod earbuds in. Yep. I’m THAT mom. But at least I’m in shape and I’m hoping to be alive ten years from now. Mom’s health is almost as important as baby psyche.

A dear friend of mine just ended up on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy (26 weeks). This brought back a lot of memories for me. Oddly enough, I kind of enjoyed bed rest. Quite frankly, I needed the break. It may have been good for me to let go of some control issues. My family REALLY appreciates my cooking now. We got a lot of really delicious meals from friends, but no matter what, food cooked by Mom always tastes best.
Watch for an article soon on tips for surviving and thriving during bed rest. In the end, the reward for behaving and laying low for months on end, is a gorgeous baby (or two!) to show for it!

This Sunday marks the one year anniversary of
Holy Cross Lutheran Church worshipping in our very own space.
So much has happened this year. It has been so exciting to see God’s hand at work in our little start up! I pray for many more years of fellowship for the people of Holy Cross. I am proud to call these people my family in the Body of Christ!

Our summer is flying by. I am still NOT regretting signing all of the kids up for Summer School. It has given them all structure to their day, and Andrew is fairly certain that he got a very boring Freshman course out of the way, leaving him more time for more challenges. I’m pretty sure William has been shoring up some of his math skills, and the two younger boys have been having fun proving what they know! Meanwhile, while they are in Summer School, I’ve been able to connect with other moms with babies.

Sometimes, having a set of twins, of a different gender, nearly six years after your youngest baby, makes you feel like a brand new mom again.
And that is OK.

I think I may just have the most awesome family ever. I have a teenage son who will still talk to me, and I think has some pretty mature and interesting ideas. I have an eleven year old son who is patient, and sweet. I have an eight year old who is enthusiastic about the things he loves, and will let me know about the things he does not care for. I have a six year old who will still cuddle me and read puppy books. And I have two baby girls who are like living dolls. They allow me to dress them in pretty dresses, and then proceed to roll all over each other like a set of puppies. They are such a joy that I feel I may burst some days. I literally still have trouble wrapping my brain around the fact that I have six kids! Four sons and two daughters! I never could have predicted the immense, overwhelming, joy that motherhood gives me.
I am truly blessed!

Are you using the couch to 5k app for ipod touch? I downloaded it… guess who hasn't used it yet. I was running for a mile at a time (that's how far I'd have to run to tan) but I got it so I could run more 5ks, however, have yet to use that app. Does it work? MISS YOU GUYS!Love, Ja
