SimplyFun Tibbar’s Apple Race Review and Giveaway
A few weeks ago I was contacted by SimplyFun consultant, Tara. She wanted to introduce you to SimplyFun’s awesome exclusive line of board games.
SimplyFun’s Mission is to make learning fun and easy and to help families stay connected!
I admit, part of my reason for participating in this review is selfish. I love board games. I always have. But, I prefer unique board games . . . and sometimes my old games bore me. Let’s get real, I’ve been at this mom thing for a while, and some of the games I played with Dakotateen back in the day have either lost their appeal. . .or lost vital parts!
I selected Tibbar’s Apple Race to play with the girls. I was attracted to the unique mixed-media feel of the game with the 3D apple tree and wood blocks for apple crates. Tibbar’s Apple Race is designed for kids age 4 and up, 1-4 players and takes only about 15 minutes to play. (Be prepared for shouts of “Play again!”)
All of SimplyFun’s games have an educational element. Tibbar’s Apple Race teaches number recognition, fine motor skills and patience and taking turns.
I knew that the girls were a bit young for the target audience, but with four big brothers in the house, they are no stranger to board games.
SimplyFun First Impressions
My first impression was that Tibbar’s Apple Race is a high quality game. The game box is sturdy, bright and appealing. I don’t think I will have to be repairing the corners of the lid like I have to do with so many mass-market games (We have a lot of crushed lids on our game shelf).
I also was impressed that when I opened the box I was greeted by well written game-play instructions. Blessedly, the cover of the instruction pamphlet included a set of “Quick Rules” because as soon as the box was open, the twins were ready to play!
The girls enjoyed their game from the first time out and Tibbar’s Apple Race lives up to SimplyFun’s goal of having games that can be learned in 5 minutes or less. Only Dakotateen enjoys games that take a lifetime to understand.
I was a little worried that the girls would be dismayed by the “songbird” option on the die. If you roll the songbird, you are distracted by his lovely song and miss your turn (I hated missing a turn as a kid!). However, the girls took it in stride and we chant “Songbird, skip a turn!” in a sing-songy voice and all is well!
.
Bottom Line
Even the older boys have enjoyed playing these games with their sister! I will definitely be purchasing games from SimplyFun for upcoming birthdays and Christmas, because even a tech obsessed blogger family needs to unplug sometimes!
