I am particularly happy when for-profit companies step up to be generous with their neighbors. That is why I am taking a moment to promote the 2014 State Farm Neighborhood Assist Program. I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for State Farm. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.
Charity is a daily part of my life. I work in fundraising and development for a statewide non-profit. My husband is a pastor of a church in town with a focus on mercy. As a family, we try to teach our children to be generous. I have chosen generosity as my word of the year this year and try to focus on doing something generous every day.
4,000 Communities across the US and Canada applied to win one of 40 $25,000 State Farm Neighborhood Assist grants.
The 4,000 applicants have been whittled down to 200 community wide projects in the areas of safety, education and community building. Now it is up to you and me to decide who will win the awards!
Now, there are no State Farm Neighborhood Assist projects in my state to vote for, so I have had fun reading through the projects to decide who to vote for each day (voting began April 29 and goes through May 16. Each individual has 10 votes per day. You can use them all on one project (my usual habit) or spread them out over several. State Farm has released an iOS app to make it easy to remember AND to vote daily! (Today I voted for the 2014 Plum Creek Festival for children’s literacy in Seward Nebraska–I know that is a cause that my good friend and children’s librarian, Essie, can get behind! I firmly believe that children become more enthusiastic readers when they learn that an author is a real live person!
Some days I vote for underdog causes. I search for the cause with the fewest votes and give them a ten vote boost. But what I remember to do is vote every day!
Here are photos from some of the State Farm Neighborhood Assist programs from 2013. I think you will agree that $25,000 is a generous gift to help us all be good neighbors!
So. What can YOU do?
