Weekend Recap. . .Or I Still Need More Weekend in My Weekend
We usually have pretty busy weekends here in the house of Dakotapam, however, this weekend seemed crazier than usual!
Friday was cold and rainy all day long, I was mostly just glad that I never saw any snow. It would have been a great evening to sit around with a bottle of wine and some chili. However, it was Band Night. The Band Night Parade is kind of the unofficial start to summer around here, but on Friday I don’t think the temperature creeped above the 30s! But the parade went on! It was William’s first time marching in a parade playing an instrument. All of the sixth grade band students in the city form one GIANT All Star Band. They played the theme from Star Wars and William was thrilled, but cold. He was not in the mood for me to snap another photo.
Owen and Ethan came to watch the parade with me, and they had a great time. They filled my pockets with lollipops and Tootsie Rolls (and I may have borrowed a few). The Rev. stayed home with the babies as he had been very busy all week working on church renovations.
This is the view from the rear of the future sanctuary. I walked through the building on Friday and was amazed at the progress that has been made and yet a little overwhelmed at how much there still is to get done.
Saturday the Rev. headed back over to the new church to so some work and I was off to the March for Babies. Again, the babies stayed home, because it was cold and raining. Again. Still. I still had fun seeing everyone and got home and spent some time with birthday boy William, who was supposed to be camping with the Boy Scouts (with new camping gear as birthday presents). But it was raining. Again. Still.
Saturday night was the kids’ school’s dinner/auction event. Andrew babysat (yay for big brothers!) and the Rev. and I got dressed up and enjoyed an evening out with friends.
Sunday was a flurry of church and Sunday School followed by a Cub Scout pack closing picnic and campfire. Thankfully we had a beautiful day! The boys had fun with their friends, I soaked up some much needed vitamin D and the girls enjoyed some time roaming in the outdoors! The little boys also crossed over to their next ranks in Cub Scouts. Owen is now a Webelo and Ethan is a Wolf.
We were all worn out! When we got home that afternoon it was actually too late for the babies to nap, but Emily did anyway. Ooops! She was still up bugging her sister at 8:30. So I took her out of her crib so she could “read” without disturbing her sister. She is a girl after my own heart, wherever she goes, she brings a book!
I’d like to say that life is going to slow down for us soon, but I’m afraid that it is not! After school today we pick up Owen’s refurbished BMX bike, Andrew is running in his last track meet of the season as we speak, and Owen has his first BMX practice today, which will also be his first time on his bike! I’ll have to let you all know how it goes! We have two short weeks of school left and I look forward to at least a few lazy summer days!

I went to a low-cost cat clinic sponsored by the shelter one of my cats came from. $22 for 2 cats bought me exams, flea treatment, shots, and nail trimming. And blessedly, it did not rain Saturday, because I had to stand in line outside for awhile – I was there for 2 hours total. Not the most “fun” thing to do on a Saturday, but it was fun to save money doing it!
On Sunday while I was in church, my cell phone buzzed during the prayers. I was very good and resisted, but when communion started, I snuck out to check. It was my Mom’s best friend, age 85 (Mom died 6 years ago), forgetting it was the time I would be in church, asking if she could take me up on my offer for a ride to church. She needs to stop driving, and so I was very happy to help out. So I went to church twice, and we have a tentative plan for me to pick her up every week. It’s so hard to give up driving – I watched my Mom do it. She did it willingly but said she didn’t have to like it! She was worried about hurting someone. So now I’m trying to guide her dearest friend into letting other people handle the driving from now on.
And I planted leftover Easter lilies from church in my yard! I’m on the altar guild, and they were getting past. We were going to throw them out anyway, so I took a few home. I have one coming up that was planted a couple of years ago. It’s fun to see them come up and guess when they might bloom – I’ve seen it from 4th of July through the end of October (during a mild weather year).
Not as busy as your weekend, but good just the same.
That is a great deal at the cat clinic! The Wonderpoodle can't even get a bath for that!

Yes we are! You should totally stop in sometime and look around! There are people there working 6 days a week! We may end up being a quieter bunch, but there are a LOT of kids, so we may eventually make more noise than the dogs:)

What darling kids! I bet playing Star Wars in the huge band… that must have been so cool!
2 of my kids are playing Star Wars songs for their piano recitals this Saturday, actually. lol Our weekend was rehearsing for the recital, driving almost 2 hours away to a wedding that was WAY colder than we expected, driving back home, and spending the whole next day at Jet Propulsion Laboratory finding out how they send robots to Mars. Then I caught up with laundry, which I still am struggling with.

My laundry is an eternal struggle. Someday it will all be done. . .maybe.
