It is no secret that I am a bigger girl. I love food. I love coffee with lots of floofy stuff in it. I have names for all of my gummy bears. BUT, I’m also a wife, and a mom to six wonderful human beings.

I need to be a good steward of this relatively healthy body that God has given me.

I’ve known for a (long) while that something has to give. Perhaps the best motivation is being married to a guy who lost 30 pounds, totally on his own, with controlling his diet and working out a lot. He looks great. Better yet–he FEELS great.

I would like that for myself. But I have a LOT of excuses.

  • I love food
  • I literally cannot stomach meal replacements, supplements, shakes, teas, or artificial sweeteners. Like, they ALL make me physically ill AND go against my philosophy of real good, real food.
  • The thought of going to a meeting every week makes me want to run the other way. I have plenty of meetings at work, thank you very much.
  • I have a lot of issues surrounding control and food. (and I do NOT want to pass these to my kids)
  • There are oh, so many more excuses…but you don’t have the time or energy to read about them!

I’ve been taking some small steps lately. I am eating more fruits and veggies. I’ve dropped my beloved Coca Cola. I drink more water. I’ve been walking more. I have started doing water aerobics at my local YMCA (highly recommend, 10 stars).

But, nothing is moving the needle on my scale (or the buttons on my clothes). the good news is, I have maintained my weight and size for 4 years–it is not getting worse–but I KNOW that I can do better.

So, on Tuesday, I took a big step. I’ve not even told anyone about it. You guys are the actual first to hear about it.

I signed up for Noom.

This was easier AND harder than I thought it would be. Before I even signed on the proverbial dotted line, Noom led me through a quiz to get to know me and my challenges. I had to get honest with what I weigh (let’s just leave it as I weigh more than anyone thinks I should), and with what my current lifestyle entails.

The great news is, Noom meets me right where I am at.

My first day of Noom entailed getting used to the interface–which is cheery and intuitive.

If you can use a phone, you can use Noom.

On my second day, I met my Coach, AKA my Goal Specialist, Erin. Erin is available via text whenever I need her, but we also have a dedicated chat once a week to discuss my goals and how best to meet them.

This is what I really love so far about Noom. Small steps, small changes, and I have support all along the way.

Later this week I will be introduced to my Group, and weekly group chats will be added to my plan.

There is so much more, but I want to test drive for a while before chatting about how it works (or not, but I suspect this will work!)

I’m going to try to check in once a week, I will share my ups and downs (I’m actually up 2 pounds today, but I’m not going to let that get me down, hormones can be cruel, yo!)
